Hari ini, 18 November 2009 bermulalah detik yang paling mendebarkan pelajar-pelajar tingkatan 5 di seluruh Malaysia. Peperiksaan SPM, ujian yang menentukan arah tuju masa hadapan kini menjelma. Masih segar di ruang minda satu perasaan yang cukup hangat dan menyesakkan di saat detik itu hampir tiba. Terimbau kembali kenangan zaman persekolahan di Maktab Rendah Sains MARA Pengkalan Chepa (MRSM PC) 3 tahun yang lalu.

Masih ku ingat bagaimana dalam tekanan sebagai seorang ketua pelajar, hari-hari yang dilalui terasa begitu pantas bergerak. Betapa sempit ruang untuk mengulangkaji pelajaran. Kadang-kadang tanggungjawab sebagai pelajar diketepikan begitu sahaja. Pernah ketika di tingkatan 4, ponteng kelas selama hampir 2 minggu, minggu pertama kerana menyertai Tunas Saintis Peringkat Kebangsaan di MRSM Pontian, minggu kedua kerana tugas sebagai ahli jawatankuasa Minggu Bahasa Peringkat Kebangsaan. Namun begitu, alhamdulillah, Allah mengurniakan keputusan yang baik dalam peperiksaan, berjaya mengekalkan PNG 3.5 ke atas. Sungguh benar janji Allah

Bersama Mami n Nipi.. Inspirasiku ketika duka

Di tingkatan 5, keadaan sama berterusan. Dikutuk, dikeji itu perkara biasa sebagai pemimpin pelajar. Biasalah orang melayu. Begitu banyak mulut yang mahu mengkritik (mereka kata berfikir kononnya), namun tidak ramai yang mahu berdiri di belakang pemimpin mereka dan melakukan perubahan bersama. Bila diajak untuk menjalankan sebarang inisiatif kebajikan pelajar, begitu banyak alasan diberi. Senario sama berlaku di mana-mana. Bergantung atas definisi perubahan yang diinginkan. Bagi kami, perubahan yang diinginkan berjaya dicapai atas beberapa indikator yang realistik yang kami tetapkan sendiri. Mungkin pada orang lain tidak, ya terserahlah. Matlamat BWP ketika itu tidaklah terlalu jauh memandangkan keadaan yang agak parah yang dibawa dari generasi terdahulu. Alhamdulillah, sekurang-kurangnya batu asas yang kami letakkan berjaya digarap dengan baik oleh BWP seterusnya dan mereka terus berubah dari generasi ke generasi. Pasti ramai MRSM PC Old Boys terkejut dengan budaya pelajar generasi terbaru ini. Sekurang-kurangnya saya sendiri pun terkejut.

Cabaran demi cabaran mendatang. Ketika SPM masih berbaki sebulan, saya terpaksa berulang-alik ke hospital tatkala sedang menghadapi Percubaan SPM. Ini cabaran yang paling dahsyat pernah dialami setakat ini. Tatkala orang lain sibuk menelaah pelajaran, saya terpaksa berehat. Dalam kelas, saya langsung tidak mampu menumpukan perhatian. Saya percaya tiada dalam kalangan adik-adik mengalami apa yang saya alami. Alhamdulillah, janji Allah itu maha benar. Saya masih berjaya mendapat keputusan terbaik dan ditemu ramah oleh RTM dan beberapa media cetak lain dalam sidang akhbar bersama Pengerusi MARA.

Natijah daripada kehidupan di MRSM PC, inilah saya. Maybe people want to argue that they are ‘finished’ because of their life in MRSM PC, well I would say they are the one who ‘surrender themselves to the weather’. This pesimistic view of life will let people down all the time until their death.

Nasihat saya kepada adik-adik yang mengambil SPM tahun ni, termasuklah adik saya sendiri:

1. Tingkatkan kebergantungan kepada Allah.
2. Banyakkan berdoa.
3. Tenangkan fikiran.
4. Minta maaf dengan semua orang terutama guru-guru. Masih ada masa selagi keputusan belum keluar.
5. Pastikan anda dah khatam Al-Quran. Pengalaman saya dengan sahabat-sahabat, menunjukkan ada trend pelajar yang skor masa peperiksaan biasa tapi tak skor masa SPM, kebanyakan daripada mereka tak pernah khatam Al-Quran.
6. Walau apa pun yang berlaku, fikir yang positif sahaja.
7. Tawakal hanya selepas berusaha sepenuh hati.
8. Banyakkan buat latihan soalan-soalan tahun lepas daripada mentelaah. Dalam keadaan genting sebegini, output lebih penting daripada input.
9. Cari ruang yang paling senang untuk fokus. Elakkan belajar di bilik.

Akhir kata, semoga berjaya dalam SPM 2009 insyaAllah. Jika saya mampu, mengapa anda tidak?

Vacuum Domain of Truth

“O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done.” (Al-Hujurat: 6)

The Allegory of the Cave

In this famous theory written by Plato, he imagines a group of people who have lived chained in a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to seeing reality.

Contact

Contact is the key to effective communication. Contact between various members of a society is essential to build strong feelings of love and commitment. Contact within the same universities, schools, classes, organizations, events and other places where people go about their business enables people to get to know each other better, to understand or share in their ideas, beliefs, sorrows and joys.

“Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who have not fought against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.” (Al-Mumtahanah: 8)

Contacts do not stop at a superficial limit like simply sharing the same universities or working in the same organizations, but it involves more intimate levels like sharing and emphatizing with others’ problems, concerns, happiness, grief, hopes, expectations and disappointments.

Assumptions

No contact means no effective communication. It obviously results in wrong information. People tend to observe from afar. They are not brave enough to catch the right people for the right and credible information. Consequently, people assume anything that may uphold their stance and assumptions tend to be wrong. Just like what is mentioned by Plato in his popular Allegory of Cave long time ago.

There’s where people build a vacuum domain of truth between them. No one dare to try to break into the domain. It needs a very high pressure, temperature, energy and very sophisticated ‘pump’ before the domain can be break. That is when prejudice and hatred come into play.

Battle of Siffin

There are a lot of examples in the olden days for what we have been discussing right now. Obviously, one of them is Battle of Siffin. It was fought between Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muawiyah I, on the banks of the Euphrates river, in what is now Ar-Raqqah, Syria. Following the controversial murder of Uthman ibn Affan, Ali had become Caliph but struggled to be accepted as such throughout the Muslim Empire.

Muawiyah, the governor of Syria, was a kinsman of the murdered Caliph, and just wanted the murderers brought to justice. He is not a rebellion as his enemy wanted people to see. Ali was in difficult situation since the ummah at that time was in chaos without a leader. Muawiyah considered that Ali was unwilling to do this, and so Muawiyah rebelled against Ali, who attempted to put down the rebellion. The result was the engagement at Siffin. It is so confusing that Ali was in Madinah while Muawiyah is in Damascus. What would you expect for two sides without any proper communication system to make a dialogue to understand each other’s position? This is what I mean as ‘Vacuum Domain of Truth’.

Therefore, it is not fair to other side if we throw a lot of accusations merely based on other’s words which could be slanderous. They may have their own agenda or influenced by their emotions. People with high knowledge and credibility also may do the same mistake. No people are free from their emotion; they may use their knowledge as they like to fulfil their agenda. Who knows? So, the solution is to meet the right people, like in the previous case, Ali, listen with an open heart to their explanation.

I write this just for one reason.

“The Believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers; and fear Allah, that ye may receive Mercy.” (Al-Hujuurat: 10)

Muslim's Dream of Ideal State

In 360 CE, Plato started talking about the ideal socio-political state which he called the ‘Republic’, and over the centuries people have tried to find or establish this perfect society without success. Although most people never realized it, this ideal society really existed; it was there in the social system built by Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. in Madinah, a system that operated according to Allah’s guidance and Islamic teachings. This righteous system survived after the death of Rasulullah and throughout the period of influence of his four wise and rightly-guided followers as Caliphs (Khulafa’ Ar-Rashidin): Abu Bakar RA, Umar Al-Khattab RA, Uthman RA and Ali RA.

When Abu Bakar was Caliph, he appointed Umar Al-Khattab as a judge. As reported by Western orientalist, months used to pass by with no one coming to Umar with any complaint. Finally, Umar came to the Caliph – according to our present days terms – present his resignation, saying “I have nothing to do. You hired me as a judge over people who knew their duties and accomplished them and who knew their rights and didn’t transgress them.”

How would you feel if you lived in such a society? You wake up every morning knowing that justice prevails, love and care surround you and mercy is your society’s main slogan. Have you ever dreamed that our brothers in Palestine, Xinjiang, Chechnya and so on live in safety without worrying of being shot or stabbed from nowhere? Currently, anywhere around the world, it is always the Muslims are the victims. I can’t imagine how a Muslim can sleep unheeding on his comfortable bed while violent oppression taking place worldwide.

The path is still too far yet not impossible. Just a simple thought from me. By the way, Happy Eid Mubarak! Kullu 'aam wa antum bil khoir. Maaf zahir dan batin.

1Malaysia F1 team

I don’t know what to say on this matter. Just a few questions arise from my mind right now.

Are we really gonna be competitive or just put something filling up the grid?

Does it feasible while Malaysia is in the midst of economic crisis?

I can’t say I’m entirely surprised; it’s pretty typical of our government’s mentality. This is and has been the perennial problem with this country; we always want to look good, but with a glaring lack of substance beneath the surface.

Instead of pouring the millions into an F1 team, why not invest in improving Proton? They’ve been cash-strapped for the past couple years as their sales have taken a downturn due to stiff competition from the like of Perodua, Toyota, Kia, and others. Their quality isn’t worth much mention either. Would it be a lot better to enter a team into F1 as a credible car manufacturer first?

I don’t know how much money does it takes to build a strong F1 team. But for sure it’s going to exceed 12 digits value. Can you imagine how this money can benefit the poor, the old and a lot of patients in hospital who are just waiting for their death since they have no money to pay their medical bill? They say that we are short of money due to economic downturn. We need to increase the petrol and food price. We need to save money, can’t afford to waste more money and etc. Now, who’s wasting their money? Everybody knows why the team as credible as BMW-Sauber pulled out from the event.

However, I try to be optimistic that this project is going to spur young minds to engage in science and technology with more passion. I also hope that this project at least will shift the role model of teenagers from all those demoralised artistes to technocrat figures if not intellectual figures as what had been done by our angkasawan. Plus, from reliable source, UTM and UTP have been engaged into the team. Hopefully, after a successful run with Formula SAE, we can move forward to involve in F1 through this once-in-a-life-time chance. Let us make Tokai University in Japan as our role model. Their students managed to design a high performance engine due to their involvement in Le Mans Project. So, let’s build one to prove that this project is not a waste.

I believe as a country, this is not the right time to build the team. Malaysia does not desperately need this. All we need right now is a focus on our people and stable economy. All this projects are just going to benefit the rich. Do you think Malaysia is ready for its own F1 team? Have your say..

UMNO Parti Islam?

Sudah berpuluh-puluh kali pemimpin UMNO melaungkan bahawa UMNO adalah parti Islam. Sejak dari zaman Tunku Rahman hinggalah ke zaman Pak Lah dengan Islam Hadhari yang sudah tidak pasti ke mana hala tujunya. Kali ini, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak pula melaungkan slogan yang sama. Atas dasar apa mereka mengatakan mereka parti Islam? Memetik kata-kata PM

“Dalam Islam, kemiskinan itu menghampiri kekufuran dan Umno sejak 53 tahun yang lepas berusaha membasmi kemiskinan di kalangan umat Islam dengan membuka tanah rancangan Felda dan adakah ini bukan tuntutan Islam?”

Adakah dengan membasmi kemiskinan dalam kalangan umat Islam merupakan dasar utama kepada perjuangan Islam? Pernah mereka tahu apakah konsep ‘Hizbullah (Parti Allah)’ yang disebutkan dalam Al-Quran? Mungkin terlalu dalam dan berat untuk dibedah konsep-konsep asas haraki ini. Di ruangan ini, biarlah saya membincangkan secara mudah persoalan ini.

Kita tidak perlu mempertikaikan kebaikan dan kebijaksanaan kerajaan dalam membentuk FELDA untuk membantu golongan miskin. Orang bukan Islam malah orang Yahudi pun membantu orang miskin. Kerajaan Israel, siap bagi tanah percuma yang dirampas daripada rakyat Palestin kepada orang Yahudi yang baru berpindah ke Israel dari Eropah. Justeru, apa yang nak dihairankan? Nak buat baik tak semestinya orang Islam. Malah, boleh jadi orang bukan Islam jauh lebih baik daripada orang Islam.

Mungkin ada sesetengah pihak yang mendakwa orang UMNO pun sembahyang 5 waktu jemaah di masjid, membaca Al-Quran dan berpuasa. Itu perkara asas yang tak perlu diperbahaskan. Orang yang berzina, minum arak mahupun berjudi juga boleh melakukan ibadah khas tersebut. Malah, ramai orientalis barat yang sah bukan Islam hafaz 30 juzu’ Al-Quran. Maka, apakah masalah sebenar yang berlaku? Nun di pedalaman FELDA, berapa ramai anak-anak muda terlibat dengan masalah sosial. Masalah rasuah yang kian menggugat kredibiliti kerajaan pemerintah sehingga ‘diiktiraf’ oleh AMNESTY International antara negara yang mempunyai indeks rasuah yang tinggi. ‘Kebocoran’ di sana sini. Itu perkara-perkara yang boleh dianggap furu’. Lalu bagaimana dengan perlembagaan Malaysia, isu murtad dan isu perundangan Islam? Di sini lah terletak isu dasarnya iaitu isu AKIDAH!

Firman Allah:
“Maka demi Tuhanmu (wahai Muhammad)! Mereka tidak disifatkan beriman sehingga mereka menjadikan engkau hakim dalam mana-mana perselisihan yang timbul di antara mereka, kemudian mereka pula tidak merasa di hati mereka sesuatu keberatan dari apa yang telah engkau hukumkan dan mereka menerima keputusan itu dengan sepenuhnya.” (An-Nisa’: 65)

Berapa banyak Majlis tadarus atau Tilawah Al-Quran yang diadakan jika dibandingkan dengan Konsert-konsert artis antarabangsa? Berapa banyak majlis ilmu yang diberi sokongan oleh kerajaan (itupun atas kepentingan politik) jika nak dibandingkan dengan pusat-pusat hiburan, judi dan arak yang diberi lesen untuk beroperasi? Bagaimana pula soal sistem pemerintahan Islam yang jelas ditolak oleh UMNO?

Firman Allah lagi
“…. dan tolong-menolonglah kamu dalam (mengerjakan) kebajikan dan takwa, dan jangan tolong-menolong dalam berbuat dosa dan pelanggaran. dan bertakwalah kamu kepada Allah, Sesungguhnya Allah amat berat siksa-Nya.” (Al-Maa’idah: 2)

Mantan PM, Tun Abdullah Badawi dengan jelas mengatakan bahawa Perlembagaan Malaysia lebih tinggi daripada Islam. Dato’ Jamaludin Jarjis dalam satu sidang parlimen ketika berbahas dengan Tuan Guru Haji Hadi menyatakan bahawa kita harus memisahkan soal pendidikan dengan Islam? 2 kenyataan daripada pemimpin ‘hebat’ ini sudah cukup untuk menjelaskan pendirian mereka yang menolak sebahagian Islam. Namun dalam Surah Al-Baqarah Allah menyatakan:

“Hai orang-orang yang beriman, masuklah kamu ke dalam Islam keseluruhan, dan janganlah kamu turut langkah-langkah syaitan. Sesungguhnya syaitan itu musuh yang nyata bagimu.” (Al-Baqarah: 208)

Formulanya mudah, Islam itu datang secara ‘pakej’. Tolak 1 bermakna tolak semua. Apatah lagi yang ditolak itu merupakan perkara-perkara Akidah.

“Sesungguhnya kami Telah menurunkan Kitab Taurat di dalamnya (ada) petunjuk dan cahaya (yang menerangi), yang dengan Kitab itu diputuskan perkara orang-orang Yahudi oleh nabi-nabi yang menyerah diri kepada Allah, oleh orang-orang alim mereka dan pendeta-pendeta mereka, disebabkan mereka diperintahkan memelihara kitab-kitab Allah dan mereka menjadi saksi terhadapnya. Karena itu janganlah kamu takut kepada manusia, (tetapi) takutlah kepada-Ku. dan janganlah kamu menukar ayat-ayat-Ku dengan harga yang sedikit. barangsiapa yang tidak memutuskan menurut apa yang diturunkan Allah, Maka mereka itu adalah orang-orang yang kafir.” (Al-Maa’idah: 44)

Jelas di sini, persoalan parti yang memperjuangkan Islam atau tidak sememangnya tidak ditentukan oleh nama mahupun apa yang dilakukan tetapi ditentukan oleh dasarnya yang berlandaskan Al-Quran dan Sunnah. Justeru, tiada jalan lain untuk menjadi golongan ‘Nasrallah’ melainkan dengan memperjuangkan kalimah ‘La ila ha illa Allah’. Marilah kita sama-sama muhasabah diri dan berdoa memohon hidayah dan taufik dari Allah agar diberi petunjuk dan kekuatan untuk berubah ke arah kebenaran. InsyaAllah.

Buat Muslimah Sejati

Boost your Self-esteem!

When we think of someone who has power, we imagine them to be dominant and controlling, but this is not true power. Our power lies deep within our souls. It is reflected in each action, movement and decision. It radiates love, compassion and understanding. It illuminates our surrounding and our world. Being powerful means overcoming our fears and self-doubts, exploring new challenges and fulfilling our duties and responsibilities.

Each of us is blessed with innumerable talents, faculties and potentials, the true challenge is to dig down into our souls to explore these faculties and make the most out of them. You cannot be happy unless you improve your sense of self-worth. That is always the first step to move further forward. By doing that, you unlock your potential and free your creative powers. Studies show that a strong belief in our own abilities significantly increases our satisfaction both at home and at work.

Do not discouraged by other people or try to copy them. Do not fear being different! Another of the Messenger’s wise sayings

“The strong believer is more loved by Allah than the weak one, and there is benefaction both.” (Muslim)

Now, to boost your self-esteem, try following these steps:

1. Believe in your self-worth and self-potential. Think about what your strong points are, write them down and keep the list where you can see to remind yourself. Work on improving and adding them. At the same time, keep your faith in your Creator. Always remind yourself that Allah is with you, that you certainly are on the right path and nothing can defeat you. Believe deep in your soul that your connection with Allah is the true source of your powers.

“… And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things.” (At-Thalaq: 3)

2. Asses your limitations and work with them. Figure out how you perceive yourself, recognize your own personal limits and acknowledge your human limitations. We are all human and we all have our flaws. Do not be ashamed of yours. Instead, recognize them so that you can figure out how to deal with them.

3. Visualize your personal success. Imagine performing your tasks well. The better you imagine yourself, the bigger the boost you are giving to your confidence.


4. Work to achieve your visualized goal, and remember that your aptitude and performance are directly related to your levels of confidence. When things go wrong, do not get discouraged, perceive it as a challenge and keep trying. Focus on success and always maintain your positive image.
